I've tested dozens of AI tools over the past year. Most are noise. Some are actually useful. Five have become essential to how I operate.

1. Claude (AI Reasoning & Writing)

Claude is my primary AI tool. I use it for strategic thinking, writing, coding review, data analysis, and problem-solving. What sets it apart is the reasoning capability. I can give Claude a complex problem, and it actually thinks through the solution instead of pattern-matching.

For executives: Use Claude for strategic decisions, business writing, and analysis. The quality of reasoning is significantly better than generic AI models.

2. Perplexity (Real-Time Research)

I need current information. Perplexity searches the web in real-time and synthesizes answers with citations. I use it before meetings to research competitive landscape, market trends, and industry news.

For executives: Use it to stay current on your industry without spending hours reading. Get synthesized intelligence with sources.

3. Midjourney (Visual Concepts)

When I need visual mockups or concept designs, I use Midjourney. Not for final design work—for conceptualizing ideas quickly. It saves me hours of explaining to designers what I'm imagining.

For executives: Use it to visualize ideas before communicating them to your team. Saves time in meetings and feedback loops.

4. Zapier + AI (Workflow Automation)

Zapier lets me automate repetitive workflows. Combine it with Claude API, and I can automate complex tasks. Email categorization, lead scoring, report generation.

For executives: Automate the administrative work that drowns your calendar. Reclaim hours per week.

5. Loom (Async Communication)

Loom isn't strictly AI, but paired with AI transcription, it's game-changing. I record thoughts, Loom generates transcripts and summaries, and my team gets async updates without sitting through meetings.

For executives: Replace status update meetings with 2-minute Loom videos. Save everyone's time.

The Principle

Don't use AI tools just because they're cool. Use them because they solve specific problems in your workflow. Each of these five tools saves me 5+ hours per week. That's 250+ hours per year. That's worth the learning curve.
